“Join or Die” was the famous slogan seen in Benjamin Franklin’s Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754. The image featured a snake cut into eight sections to represent the English colonies. Originally intended to unite the colonies during the French Indian War, the image was later adapted to unite the colonies against the British. Once unified against a common enemy, another familiar image appeared, the image of a coiled snake ready to strike and the words “Don’t Tread on Me”.

A Louisiana driver has been stopped and detained for having a “Don’t Tread on Me” bumper sticker on his vehicle and warned by a police officer about the “subversive” message it sent, according to the driver’s relative.
The situation developed in the small town of Ball, La., where a receptionist at the police department told WND she knew nothing about the traffic stop, during which the “suspect” was investigated for “extremist” activities, the relative said. Continue reading
