Draft Law Revives Practice of Soviets

(NYTimes) – The lower house of the Russian Parliament passed a draft law on Friday allowing the country’s intelligence service to officially warn citizens that their activities could lead to a future violation of the law, reviving a Soviet-era K.G.B. practice that was often used against dissidents. The president, Dmitri A. Medvedev, is expected to sign it into law shortly.

The legislation was proposed during the tense weeks after two suicide bombers attacked the Moscow subway, and its stated goal was to stanch the growth of radicalism among young Russians. But rights advocates and opposition parties have warned that the expanded powers could be used to silence critics of the government. In a letter made public on Thursday, 20 leading human rights activists condemned the legislation as a blow to “the cornerstone principles of the law: the presumption of innocence and legal certainty.” Read entire article

FDA declares war on ozone generators; seizes inventory

(NaturalNews) – Declaring ozone generators an unapproved and untested medical device, the FDA seized the inventory of a California manufacturer on January 29.

“The seized devices are potentially harmful to public health,” said the agency’s acting associate commissioner for regulatory affairs, Michael Chappell. “The agency will take action to protect the public from FDA-regulated products that are in violation of the law.”

According to an FDA press release, Auburn, Calif. manufacturer Applied Ozone Systems has promoted its devices for the treatment of a variety of health conditions including cancer, AIDS, herpes and hepatitis. The use of ozone machines as medical devices has not received FDA approval, however, making it illegal for the company to market them for those uses. Continue reading

Video: Another Significant Step Toward A US War On Iran – Ron Paul

I rise in strongest opposition to this new round of sanctions on Iran, which is another significant step toward a US war on that country. I find it shocking that legislation this serious and consequential is brought up in such a cavalier manner. Suspending the normal rules of the House to pass legislation is a process generally reserved for “non-controversial” business such as the naming of post offices. Are we to believe that this House takes matters of war and peace as lightly as naming post offices? Continue reading

Pfizer pleads guilty to felony crime in fraudulent marketing of Bextra, pays billions in fines

(NaturalNews) – For the last several years, I’ve referred to drug companies as “criminal” operations. They have engaged in price fixing, marketing fraud, science fraud and many other criminal activities that we’ve written about here on NaturalNews. And yet, until today, they always managed to avoid the criminal charges by settling with the government for a few million dollars in payouts. This was their racket: Violate the law, then when you get caught, just settle with some cash. (And there’s always some spare cash to go around since fraudulent science and fraudulent marketing is very, very lucrative.) Continue reading
