Video: Empty Holsters

Courts and legislatures across the country are deciding whether students and professors can carry guns on campus–but your university might be preventing you from being part of the debate.

Since more than 30 people were murdered at Virginia Tech, debate has raged over guns on campus. Yet, on far too many campuses, FIRE sees censorship instead of real discussions about the merits of permitting students and professors to be armed. These are the stories of students who joined the battle of ideas in order to debate issues of personal safety–and ended up fighting to maintain their First Amendment rights. Continue reading

Kagan on Second Amendment: Like Freedom of Speech Enjoys “Strong But Not Unlimited Protection”

(KaganWatch) – RELATED: Kagan Was ‘Not Sympathetic’ as Law Clerk to Gun-Rights Argument

While in the Clinton White House, Kagan took on gun (and tobacco) industries.

During her confirmation as solicitor general, Kagan said the Second Amendment, like freedom of speech, enjoys “strong but not unlimited protection.”

In a questioner from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) about gun rights during her confirmation to be Solicitor General, Kagan had this to say:

“Once again, there is no question, after Heller, that the Second Amendment guarantees individuals the right to keep and bear arms and that this right, like others in the Constitution, provides strong although not unlimited protection against governmental regulation.” – Source: Kagan Watch

MSM: Mass. court upholds state gun-lock requirement

(MSNBC) – The highest court in Massachusetts on Wednesday upheld the constitutionality of a state law that requires gun owners to lock weapons in their homes in a ruling applauded by gun-control advocates.

The case had been closely watched by both gun-control and gun-rights proponents.

Massachusetts prosecutors argued that the law saves lives because it requires guns to be kept in a locked container or equipped with a trigger lock when not under the owner’s control. The Second Amendment Foundation Inc., however, cited a 2008 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that said people have a constitutional right to keep weapons for self-defense. Read More Here

Macomb Township Tries To Repeal 2nd Amendment, Fails Epically

What is it with liberals and gun rights. Liberals simply cannot find an individual right to carry in the U.S. Constitution, even though it is explicitly cited in amendments that specifically address only individual rights, but can find a right to abortion which is somehow invisibly inserted somewhere in the same document. Just recently, a Macomb Township ordinance banning guns in public places came under scrutiny when a gun rights group, Michigan Open Carry, was to hold a picnic in a park – by definition a public location.
