Mainstream Media is Crushing Public Confidence

(USAWatchdog) – Recently, a new Gallup poll delivered some bad news to mainstream media–only one fourth of people asked believe what it says.  The Gallup story said, “Americans continue to express near-record-low confidence in newspapers and television news – with no more than 25% of Americans saying they have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in either.”  (Click here for the complete Gallup story.)

This is not a recent trend according to Gallup and other polls done on this subject.  Last summer, comedian Jon Stewart of the “Daily Show” was “Most Trusted” newscaster.  I wrote about this in a piece I did last year called “The Soft Truth.”  I said, “He had almost as many votes as Charlie Gibson and Brian Williams combined.  Katie Couric, according to the Time Magazine poll, came in dead last.  Boy, if that is a not a wake-up call to mainstream media, I do not know what is. . . . Doing superficial event type news programming is something I call “The Soft Truth.”  It is more or less superficial news and is cheap, fast to produce, and you will not make enemies. The news in mainstream media has mostly become just the stuff between the commercials. As Glenn Greenwald points out, Gibbs seems to be in denial over a number of substantive criticisms of the Obama administration raised by the left, including the fact they have “done so little about crisis-level unemployment, foreclosures and widespread economic misery,” exhibited an “endless devotion to Wall Street,” expanded “a miserable, pointless and unwinnable war that is entering its ninth year…. claimed the power to imprison people for life with no charges and to assassinate American citizens without due process, intensified the secrecy weapons and immunity instruments abused by his predecessor, … found all new ways of denying habeas corpus…. granted full-scale legal immunity to those who committed serious crimes in the last administration [and] failed to fulfill – or affirmatively broken – promises ranging from transparency to gay rights.

Ahmadinejad slams West’s instrumental use of media

(TehranTimes) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad slams the West for its instrumental use of media with the aim to dominate the world.

The president made the remarks in a Saturday speech to mark the ‘Reporters’ Day’.

August 8 (Mordad 17 in the Iranian calendar) is named the Reporter’s Day marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of IRNA correspondent Mahmoud Saremi in Afghanistan in 1998 when Taliban fighters occupied the Iranian consulate in Mazari Sharif.

“Western media have always portrayed justice-seeking nations as weak and inefficient while showing the bullying powers as freedom-seeking and pro-democratic,” Ahmadinejad stated.

The West is using media as a psychological warfare tool against other countries, the president noted.

Ahmadinejad cited the Palestine issue as a concrete example in which Western media try to manipulate realities on the ground.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad noted that there is no obstacle in the way of Iranians livings abroad to return back to the country.

66% of Voters Are Angry At The Media

(RasmussenReports) – Sixty-six percent (66%) of U.S. voters describe themselves as at least somewhat angry at the media, including 33% who are Very Angry.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 31% say they are not angry at the media, but that includes just nine percent (9%) who say they are not at all angry.

It’s important to note, however, that the question did not in any way define media or differentiate between media outlets such as CNN and Fox News.

But voters have consistently said in surveys that they believe the national media has a liberal bias and that most reporters try to help the candidates they want to win. Just before Election Day 2008, 51% said most reporters were trying to help Barack Obama win the presidency. Just seven percent (7%) thought they were trying to help John McCain, while 31% viewed their coverage as unbiased. FCC Talks Up Sovietization of Media

(KurtNimmo) – The Federal Trade Commission has released a plan dubbed “Potential Policy Recommendations to Support the Reinvention of Journalism.” It is nothing if not a government plan to sovietize media in the United States.

The Obama commissariat offer big ideas on how to “re-invent” media that is flagging due to the fact the corporatists insist on embracing a dinosaur business model that worked fine in 1950 but has spelled disaster and bankruptcy in 2010. Government is also worried about the fact millions of people are tuning out of the corporate media wavelength in favor of a dynamic medium on the internet where corporate domination — and government propaganda — is nearly impossible.
