MSM: Harvard puts tighter limits on medical faculty

(BostonGlobe) – Harvard Medical School will prohibit its 11,000 faculty from giving promotional talks for drug and medical device makers and accepting personal gifts, travel, or meals, under a new policy intended partly to guard against companies’ use of Harvard’s prestige to market their products.

The conflict-of-interest rules also place stricter limits on the income faculty can earn from companies for consulting, joining boards, and other work; require public reporting of payments of at least $5,000 on a medical school website; and promise more robust internal reporting and monitoring of these relationships. Celente – Bull Run Or BS? Crash Of 2010 On Its Way

(Rense) – 2010 has thundered past the half way mark and is galloping into history. What will the rest of the year hold?

Most of the “Top Ten Trends for 2010” forecast by Gerald Celente this past winter in the Trends Journal® have either come to pass or are about to manifest. Celente predicted:

The Afghan surge would fail.
The economic recovery would never materialize.
Terrorist threats would increase.
Tea parties would gain strong momentum.
Obama’s popularity would wane and/or plummet.
Anti-Immigration sentiments would intensify.
In 2009, “experts” rejoiced at the sight of the impending recovery’s “green shoots” and predicted the advent of a roaring bull stock market run.

Bull market or BS? Celente called the green shoots a mirage and recovery “a cover up.” Sure enough, the Dow is now trading at 1999 levels. He also wrote “Geopolitical and sociological fallout will threaten the entire European Union” and he forecast the “Crash of 2010.”

Will the “Crash” happen at all? Will it happen on schedule? Events conspiring in that direction are explored in detail in the Summer Trends Journal®, just sent to subscribers. Continue reading

Why Not Another World War? – Peter Schiff

(C4L) – There is overwhelming agreement among economists that the Second World War was responsible for decisively ending the Great Depression. When asked why the wars in Iran and Afghanistan are failing to make the same impact today, they often claim that the current conflicts are simply too small to be economically significant.

There is, of course, much irony here. No one argues that World War II, with its genocide, tens of millions of combatant casualties, and wholesale destruction of cities and regions, was good for humanity. But the improved American economy of the late 1940s seems to illustrate the benefits of large-scale government stimulus. This conundrum may be causing some to wonder how we could capture the good without the bad.

If one believes that government spending can create economic growth, then the answer should be simple: let’s have a huge pretend war that rivals the Second World War in size. However, this time, let’s not kill anyone. Continue reading

Florida Dengue Fever Outbreak Leads Back to CIA and Army Experiments

(Truthout) – Unknown to most Americans is that dengue fever has been the intense focus of US Army and CIA biological warfare researchers for over 50 years. Ed Regis notes in his excellent history of Fort Detrick, “The Biology of Doom,” that as early as 1942 leading biochemists at the installation placed dengue fever on a long list for serious consideration as a possible weapon. State-Sponsored Eugenics in Uzbekistan Made Possible by UN, US and World Bank Funding

(Infowars) – The British Independent featured an AP article last Saturday, detailing suspicions that health officials in the Republic of Uzbekistan are widely involved in involuntary sterilization-practices. At first glance, the story may seem wild and baseless. Nothing however is further from the truth.

The AP-reporter spoke with a 24-year old housewife named Saodat Rakhimbayeva, an extremely brave woman who tells a heart-wrenching tale of state-sponsored eugenics in her home country of Uzbekistan. After giving birth to a premature boy, she had to witness her son dying just three days later. Continue reading

The Obama Disappointment

(WNY) – Barack Obama’s presidency, while far from being a failure, has been something of a disappointment to many of his initial supporters. The noise from people on the far right who question the president’s place of birth or believe him to be a socialist because he passed a stimulus package that many economists believe to be too small and a health care bill that will lead to millions of new customers and new revenue for the insurance companies, has overshadowed some of this. However, Obama’s disappointed supporters are far more important to his political future than angry opponents who never have and never will support him.

Disappointment from progressive circles seems to be based on three things, Obama’s support for the war in Afghanistan, his failure to take any strong positions on important issues to progressives such as marriage equality and the relatively modest nature of the legislation the administration has passed on key issues such as health care and the economy. These decisions can all be explained-some might say rationalized. Obama, after all, campaigned on expanding the war in Afghanistan. While the health care and economic stimulus bills are not perfect, they took a great deal of work and are better than nothing. Obama has to be careful about doing too much for his base because he risks alienating moderates. These explanations are either irrelevant; nobody cares how much work or legislative pyrotechnics it took to pass the bills, or wrong; supporting marriage equality comes at far less political cost than many think. The most massive and brutal crime committed on this planet during the past decade has been the invasion and occupation of Iraq. And we’re seeking to wash the blood off our hands without so much as an “Out, damn spot!” Nowadays “looking forward, not backward” is supposed to take care of everything, even as the crimes continue. What that takes care of is the leading perpetrators who begin to sense that the coast is clear and creep out of their holes to declare, as did Karl Rove this week, that their biggest mistake was not more aggressively attacking those who pointed out their crimes. (TarpleyNet) – Obama Is Preparing to Bomb Iran – Webster Tarpley

After about two and a half years during which the danger of war between the United States and Iran was at a relatively low level, this threat is now rapidly increasing. A pattern of political and diplomatic events, military deployments, and media chatter now indicates that Anglo-American ruling circles, acting through the troubled Obama administration, are currently gearing up for a campaign of bombing against Iran, combined with special forces incursions designed to stir up rebellions among the non-Persian nationalities of the Islamic Republic. Naturally, the probability of a new fake Gulf of Tonkin incident or false flag terror attack staged by the Anglo-American war party and attributed to Iran or its proxies is also growing rapidly. What can I say; here we go again!

I hardly need to go down the list of lies used to start US wars. We have been though that over and over again.

Anyone with half a brain realizes that the US Government, unable to gain support for an invasion of Iran, has changed gears and decided that North Korea will be the next step towards World War III.

China’s Oil Gusher

(EnergyBoom) – China Oil Spill Doubles In Size as Clean-Up Efforts Continue

The oil spill off the northeast coast of China has doubled since it began last Friday.

Crude oil now covers around 165 square miles of water.  Although this currently pales in comparison to the size of Gulf of Mexico offshore oil leak (2,700 mile oil slick), it is another black-eye for the oil industry.

The China oil spill began when an oil pipeline exploded while an oil tanker was being unloaded at Dalian Port.  The explosion led to a 15-hour firestorm and oil flowing into the Yellow Sea.

According to the China Securities Journal, operations at the Dalian Port have returned to normal.  Beaches, however, have been closed, and there are 800 boats and 40 oil skimming vessels trying to clean up the oil.

Greenpeace China’s lead climate campaigner, Yang Ailun, said this disaster highlights the time has truly come to shift to renewable energy: “From the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of Dalian to the numerous coal mine accidents, it is tragically obvious that economic development built upon fossil fuels is unsustainable and comes at a high price.”
